Well after I said _____ no one is trying to kill your mother, tell me a little more about what is going on with your mother. Well this is third time this month we have been to the hospital, she has had some falls and isn't really able to handle her daily things (getting dressed, feeding herself you know simple stuff), but we can help with that-- she is on about 3L of oxygen because her heart has been failing for a few years--
So it sounds like she may have several things going on and if her physician is saying HOSPICE-- adding it to her chart will not take her out of here! She isn't going anywhere until God is ready for her to go. So of course I asked...does your mama know Jesus-- she said yes! Next does she want to keep coming to the hospital or is that you coming back an forth. She said "Mama said she was tired and just wanted to be at home watching the leaves fall from the trees out of her window."
I went and talked to the MD with the family and her mother was hospice appropriate-- now what does that really mean? That means that you can take her home, she can stop fighting nature and let God work-- it doesn't mean let Mama die-- it means let her tell you what she wants! That means we can send you a C.N.A. out to the house 5 days a week, a RN once a week, a social worker and a chaplain for anything else she needs. We will take care of paying for that oxygen and if she decides she wants a hospital bed and anything else we can make that happen! Most importantly she can be comfortable both mentally & physically. It means not one dime will come out of her pocket or yours! Hospice is optional and even if you sign up for it and decide against HOSPICE-- you can always change your mind.
Her mother lived for about 9 months on our services and the family was well taken care of after her death as well-- you see HOSPICE is about the entire family and not just the patient.
There are studies that show people live 2 months longer on hospice services vs. traditional curative measures.
