As I prepare for November to soon be here- I can not help but think about the planning that is upon us for the upcoming season --
November is Hospice & Palliative Month -- kind of like Breast Cancer Awareness and it is my job to
EDUCATE you and
ENCOURAGE you to
EMBRACE the
Agape HOSPICE philosophy. I would like to educate you and your family while you are healthy so it is easier to understand vs. feeling rushed when you hear it from the physician. Note: As a believer I understand that death is inevitable, but sickness is not! I often tell families while I am in the ICU-- "the God I serve is still in the miracle working business and He is the final say so-- not any physician."
I think of life like this and I tend to believe that most people will agree if they think about it for a minute. We interview pediatricians, we plan around fertility methods, we interview adoption attorneys, we tour day care facilities, we ask our friends for referrals, we purchase health insurance and even increase our life insurance, we pack our bags and keep them at the door for the baby to come any day! When it comes to death we procrastinate and try to avoid the inevitable.

When at this time we should be educating ourselves on what is going on with our loved one, maybe even touring Adult Day Care facilities, preparing with a Living Will, asking questions about salvation, asking questions about what the patient may want, we should be investing in quality time, surrounding our loved ones with happy memories, sitting on the porch enjoying the sun, the moon and every thing in between. This is the best time to concentrate on LIVING!
Let me know how I can educate you during the month of November-- a seminar, a tour, a family meeting, what can I do to help? Over the last 20 years our family has used hospice services four times and I wouldn't change it for the world-- What questions do you have?
One of my favorite songs
Tim McGraw- Live like you were dying check out the lyrics!
Proverbs 4:7 ESV
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
