She couldn't wait for the MD to mention it-- she was an advocate for her mother & herself- she asked for HOSPICE!

A few weeks ago I received a call about a lady coming into a local office in tears.  The staff assumed that the lady crying needed medical attention, after all she asked for the doctor.  The staff was unable to triage her and find any issues-- so they got the doctor to come out and see her.

He took her into a room and talked to her privately.  She said she needed help for her mother, but she couldn't bring her into the office, she couldn't say what was wrong, she just knew that her mother wasn't doing well.  He had seen her mother a few weeks ago for a bad cough and couldn't put his finger on the entire problem.  He called me and asked what can you do for this FAMILY.  He didn't ask what can you do for this patient, he was specific and said FAMILY.  We talked I went to his office and he left me an order to admit her to HOSPICE services. I met with my nurse and she said we need a little more information, I went to her Cardiologist and got some information and we had a nurse go out and do a face to face with this patient so we could get a REAL picture of what was going on.  We admitted her to our hospice services; she died a couple weeks later.

You see what we learn from scenarios like this one is that YOU have to be an advocate for yourself as a caregiver and for your family that you are caring for.  This doctor understood that the care hospice offers isn't just for the patient, but for the entire FAMILY!  This daughter needed rest, she needed to be able to know someone was there to help her, she needed Agape Hospice.  Her mother has passed and we will still be there for the FAMILY-- our bereavement services are above the norm-- we take care of families for up to 15 months vs. the norm of 12 months.

Be the advocate for your house-- your family-- your well being!  Call Travise today to see if we can help you and your family 803 329 4544
